How This Calculator Works
Reported open rates from email platforms are almost always inflated. Apple Mail Privacy Protection (MPP) pre-loads tracking pixels for all emails, making every Apple Mail recipient appear as an "open." Microsoft's Outlook sometimes blocks tracking pixels entirely, causing under-reporting. Google Workspace has its own caching behavior that can inflate counts.
This calculator applies provider-specific deflation factors based on industry research: Apple MPP inflates opens by ~20–30%, Google caching adds ~10–15%, and Microsoft under-reports by ~5–10%. The "true open rate" estimate accounts for these biases to give you a more accurate picture of actual engagement.
A good cold email open rate is 40–60% after adjustments. Below 30% typically signals deliverability problems, poor subject lines, or a low-quality list. Above 60% suggests exceptional targeting and messaging.
